frequently asked questions

Q. Is it mandatory to attend both the competition and convention?

A. No, you may attend one or both, the choice is yours. That's how we feel it should be. However, for the maximum educational benefit, we believe that attending both events is most beneficial to young dancers.

Q. Do you accept independant entries for your competitions?

A. All entries must be signed by a director.

Q. Which day is Competition and which day is Convention?

A. Unless otherwise noted under the "more info" links on the Schedule page, Competition is always on Saturday and Convention is always on Sunday. If a Friday night is listed on our schedule, that night will be used for Senior Solos and possibly some Senior Duet/Trios, if necessary. This would only be on Friday Evening.

Q. Should I enter my piece as Future, Rising, or All Star?

A. Consider this category as a Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced division. Less than 3 years of formal dance training is considered Future Star, whether in the Junior or Senior category. Rising Star is 4 to 6 years of formal dance training, and All Star is 6 or more years of formal training. All groups are based on the average number of years of formal training.

Q. What qualifies my dancers to compete at Nationals?

A. Any dancer reciving a gold, silver or bronze award is elidigable to compete at nationals. An honorable-mention, however, must re-compete at the Regional Level and score at least bronze to qualify for nationals.

Q. As a teacher, am I allowed to compete with my students?

A. Dancers Inc. features a "Teacher" division for entries with teacher participation. This division is seperate from the Future Star, Rising Star, and All Star divisions, and if 5 or more Teacher numbers are entered in a given competition, we will give additional prizes for that division. Teachers are not eligible to compete for titles in National competitions.

Q. When should I arrive at the Competition/Convention?

A. Please have your parents, dancers, and families arrive no more than 45 minutes prior to the opening of the day.

Q. What if my students "really connect" to a master teacher at a convention?

A. Please call us in the office at (732) 685-8182 and we will be delighted to connect our Master Teacher with you. Please refrain from contacting that teacher directly at an event.

Q. Can we videotape our numbers in competition?

A. That depends. There are events where Dancers Inc. will offer professionally produced, low cost, high quality DVDs of an event through a partnering company. In these situations, we cannot allow independent recording. However, if this service is not being provided, we ask that only one member of your team be designated as the videographer, that they wear the offical video badge (which is available at the registration table at the event), and that only your studio's numbers are videotaped.

Q. Can my dance team have a bake sale table at your event?

A. In order to be fair to all of our participating studios, we cannot allow a dance team to practice fundraising at our events.
